Having only been created in 2004 in his Harvard dorm, Mark Zuckerberg's company that he found less than a decade ago is expected to file papers in America today to allow the flotation of Facebook on the American markets.
The value that is thought to be put on the company - $100bn, that's $100,000,000,000.00 (an american billion being a thousand million, instead of a million million). It will make Mr. Zuckerberg a 'paper' billionaire many times over.
Whether Facebook's phenomenal growth will continue once it has gone public will be seen, and with statistics saying that young people are starting to move away from Facebook, is the companies backers being cunning and cashing in at the top of it's business model cycle?
I studied at University in the early 90's when the internet was still in its infancy and was mainly used for communication between University campuses. If only I had seen the potential back then instead of going out and having fun most nights. C'est la Vie!
What will be the next big thing, get in quick!
